Just outside the medieval city of Vannes is a hotel that blends the historic charm of the area with modern elegance and a taste of luxury. Nestled between the crystal beaches of the Morbihan gulf and the lush forests of Brittany, Domaine du Liziec is an oasis where the old world meets the new. Operating across a 16th-century château and a contemporary addition, this chic hotel offers privacy and proximity to nature while being minutes from the historic center of the city. For those looking for a quiet, relaxing stay on the coast of Brittany, Domaine du Liziec is the perfect place to stay when visiting Vannes.

Ideally situated, the hotel is just a 5-minute drive from the train station in Vannes. When we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the staff at reception, which set the tone for a warm and friendly ambiance throughout our stay. The majority of the hotel lies within the modern building, offering elevated contemporary design and amenities. The Superior Room was spacious and bright, with a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. Equipped with a built-in wardrobe, desk, sitting area, and a selection of coffee and teas, we had everything we needed upon arrival. The bathroom was large and light, with a rainshower that was perfect for starting the day or returning from the spa. The cherry on top was the speaker on the bedside table, allowing us to create a perfect, relaxing ambiance.

After settling in, our first stop was the spa. Thanks to the reservation system and child-free hours, the space is never crowded. The heated pool is perfect for swimming laps or simply soaking, before warming up in the sauna. Inside the hammam, eucalyptus-scented steam was perfect for clearing the airways and truly unwinding. The only things we missed were gender neutral changing rooms and a jacuzzi/whirlpool, and at times we wanted to stay longer than the daily hour-long reservation allotted. For an additional cost, guests can also enjoy spa treatments from massages to facials and anti-aging treatments using high-end Ella Baché products. It’s the perfect place for rest and rejuvenation during your stay.

For those who want to stay fit on holiday, there is even a fitness center with all of the state-of-the-art equipment you need.

While you’ll want to take advantage of all of the delicious bistros and wine bars Vannes has to offer, you can’t miss a meal at Domaine du Liziec. Each morning, we enjoyed a buffet breakfast in the chic Brasserie with beautiful views of the surrounding gardens. With a wide variety to choose from, you can enjoy fresh bacon and eggs, fruits, pastries, juices, and even healthy smoothies and a hot beverage of your choice, made to order.

We returned for lunch to find the restaurant bustling. Despite a few hiccups with the service, the menu was filled with traditional French cuisine with local ingredients and elevated execution. We enjoyed a nice glass of Chablis and an incredible amuse-bouche of savory truffle bone marrow served with brioche toasted to perfection. For the main, magret de canard with an orange sauce and parsley butter stole the show.

For special occasions, book a place at La Table, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. Managed by Michelin-starred chef, Olivier Samson, it offers seasonal French classics that will delight the palate. Afterwards, head to the cocktail bar for a nightcap and enjoy a refined signature cocktail in an intimate atmosphere.

Whether you want to spend your time exploring the medieval center of Vannes, unwinding in the spa, indulging in gourmet food and wine, or simply strolling through the gardens around the château, Domaine du Liziec has a little bit of everything. For whatever mood you’re in, there’s no better place to stay when you visit the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan. From historic architecture to natural beauty, it really is a little slice of paradise.
